The Bean Cafe, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island

If you don't actually like people nor want to wait on them then why in the world would you actually get a service job.

I was treated very badly the last time I went in to the Bean Cafe. It was Monday July 25th, 2016 around 4pm. I got a cookie, I asked for ice water. The guy was a jerk and snottily said they are in the pitchers, I said the pitchers are empty. He took the pitchers, he filled them then stood there talking to people behind the counter, for a very long time, with me standing there waiting. He had no concern for me what so ever. NONE.

I complained to another guy and he hurried him along, I had already sat down by then. So hot and tired, and none of them would actually bring me the water.

He walked by me several times stocking drinks and could not bring me a water.

The Bean Cafe owner seems very friendly, always remembers my name. However the staff has had a major and seemingly constant turn over.  When I got here to San Juan Island in March of 2016 the staff was amazing, so friendly, so positive, and the coffee was consistently good.

They knew me by name, and checked on me, and were simply effective and kind. Though the coffee was not consistent among them all, most of the gals made really good coffee.

Then they hired new people and the coffee is now, well you never ever know what you will get there is no consistency. They are not friendly, not personable and not kind for the most part. Not rude as the ONE guy, just not friendly or personable as the crew was in March, April, and into May.

The Food I found to be mediocre at best. The Potato Salad is out of a giant vat and it is not good at all.  The cookies are very good, and when the coffee is good its really good.

The Bean is the best place in town to watch for the ferry on a big screen tv. There is plenty of room, there is air conditioning, and so it really is the best hang out place. But I don't go there anymore because of how I am now treated and the coffee is not consistent.

The guy today was so pompous, so arrogant, so unkind, if he worked for me he would have been fired right then and there. Oh well not my business and as I said to bad as the owner seems like a nice guy, and between the Bean and the coffee place next door, I believe they also run, they have the best place in town to go, yet why bother when the food is as such, the coffee has NO Consistency, and the help is simply not friendly nor effective NOW.

Area Earthquakes; 3.4 magnitude earthquake reported south of Lopez Island - 11am April 5th

"LOPEZ ISLAND, Wash. – A 3.4 magnitude earthquake was reported just after 11 a.m. south of Lopez Island, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.

Their website shows the location of the reported rumbling as just south of Barnacle Rock on Lopez at a depth of nearly 37 miles.

Tom with The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, located in Friday Harbor, says he didn’t feel anything and heard of the earthquake when KGMI called him. So far, he says they’ve received no reports of damage or injuries."
